Relaxed Californian lifestyle abounds in the interiors of Design Commune. This inviting collection embodies the evolving portfolio of the eponymous multidisciplinary design studio founded by Roman Alonso and Steven Johanknecht in 2004. Strongly influenced by handmade materials and mid-century Los Angeles interiors, the duo and their team of designers facilitated an LA design renaissance with their artfully-designed spaces, not to mention their stints in product design, packaging and graphic design. They have designed interiors for the likes of The Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, Palm Springs and Kyoto, the earthy-cool ceramics company Heath and the GOOP flagship store, along with many private residences. Utilizing prominent wood features and paneling, earthy textures, handmade accents and color schemes that evoke the topography of the California landscape, Design Commune creates warm and comforting spaces with heaps of style. Photographed in rich, sunlit tones that make you feel like you’re in sunny LA, Design Commune is a primer on West Coast cool.
